This page lists all technical details that do not fall under
the first four categories of the Technical details chapter.
Battery wiring
Not all THINGs were wired exactly the same. Some had the
battery (+) junction at the battery, others had it at the starter
and a few had it split between the two locations. The smaller
wires usually went to the same places: (1) to terminal 30 on the
voltage regulator (2) to Fuse #8 and (3) to the (+) side of the
generator.
Other variations certainly exist and, if all else fails, they may
be a part of the diagnostic connector that was a part of the
stock THING.

Skid plates
The rear engine protection skid plate has to be mounted to
the three M10 bolt holes on the rear of the AM-series engine. It
has VW part no. 181 100 833.
Other skid plates that can be fitted to any VW engine:
- Engine Protection plate LEFT VW part no. 113 100 805.
- Engine Protection plate RIGHT VW part no. 113 100 806.
- Front Engine Protection skid plate (fitted under the
transmission) VW part no. 113 800 825.
